Challenge #9 of the 10 Day You Challenge
I am a music junky!, so, to just pick two is…gah, so tough! I love so many songs and can pick a half dozen to represent this, but which TWO!!??
This is truly a challenge, guys~!
OK. I think I have a list!
1. At Last– Sung by Etta James
At Last is our wedding song, and with our 13th* wedding anniversary coming up in a couple of weeks, it just is the right fit in my top two. This song makes me smile anytime I hear it, bringing me right back to our first dance as husband and wife. He in his sweet black tux, holding me close, and I in my white dress smiling, tearing up singing in his ear. It must’ve sounded horrible. haha 🙂
We had so much fun that night.
“You smiled, you smiled. Oh …and then the spell was cast”– the lyrics why we chose it. We first met, we smiled and were enchanted. Literally from the second we looked at each other.
*Actually, today is our 18th year date-iversary! YAH!!!11 We were such babies then! And tonight we will be celebrating in true us fashion…Arcade Fire show! Which I will try to post all about Thursday, cause tomorrow is also my love’s birthday!! 🙂 This is my killer time of year with family events!
2. Pictures of You – Sung by The Cure
“The best thing about a picture is that it never changes, even when the people in it do.”― Andy Warhol
Pictures of You is one of those perfect songs isn’t it? If you are heartbroken it totally is, or a goth chick/guy too…hah. But I am no goth girl and my heart’s condition is definitely not the reason I picked this song for this. I just really have always liked this song, and when I brought it to my husband, that I was choosing this song in my top two, he said it made total sense.
I love photos, you see. I love looking back at life and time as it was when the camera snapped the photo. Even if it pains me to see the change sometimes. There’s something somber in that idea, I know, maybe I am slightly goth..no no I am totez not. I just like re-living the past and this song happens to always place me there.
What are your two songs?!?!
Oh NO! One more challenge to go! 😦
Till next Tuesday, guys!
Challenge #8 of the 10 Day You Challenge
I am chosing three movies that I love to watch, cry over and feel best represent me.
I was touched by this whimsical movie right from the first seconds. My husband took me to the theaters at Kendall Sq to watch a foreign film he thought I’d like. This was the first movie we went to after returning from our honeymoon in 2001! And, boy, did I love this movie!
Amelie, the character, is so loveable and complicated (like most women at that age are), and Audrey Toutou who plays her is genius and beautiful (she is a great actress, but this was my first movie of hers). Amelie’s journey through her life is neurotically quirky with regards to her upbringing and her relationship with her father, and the relationships she has with her coworkers and apartment neighbors is crazy and, in turn, hilarious. She is bold, shy and crazy, all wrapped in a cute French girl with a super cute hairstyle!
Also, she turns out to be very relatable.
My favorite part is how the story is strung together. How she turns all that is around her into finding true happiness, the type she deserves and the type that is unique. The scavenger hunt of photos turns into meeting the love of her life which is so well written and perfect; I just love how this story is told.
I have a thing for romantic comedies, so you all are in the know. Ahem, Harry Met Sally, still awesome after all this time!
Any movie I can laugh, cry and think about is perfect for me!
Also, I have a thing for foreign films. I love them!!!
…and I might have to watch this tonight after thinking about it!
Jim Carrey was so amazing in the Truman Show (fantastic movie!), which was a true shock to those of us who knew him as a slapstick comedian from TV and other movies. So when this movie came out I was ripping at the seams to go see it. His brilliance portraying his character, Joel, as the so believable heartbroken man over the break up of his girlfriend Clementine, who is played by Kate Winslet perfectly done. She is just brash and struck with contempt over a relationship that didn’t work out too well. This couple is in the midst of a breakup and find that they would rather erase their memories of one another than deal with the pain of the breakup. But what they come to realize is that they really never wanted to break up in the first place, cause they never gave it that true shot. They were being selfish in the moment, and well, you know how relationships go.
It is a sad story when you see the core of their story. It leaves you feeling strangely empty yet rooting for this couple to make it. This story was filmed in an interesting way too, with regards to the point of view. The current story is playing at the center of these sort of rash array of dreamy complicated memory snippets as they are being erased from their psyche. The movie is just fantastically a mind fuck.
Ok, let me preempt this with I love Tim Burton films. I am a huge fan of his*. I relate to his pov a lot.
My God the first time I watched Edward Scissorhands I left with mouth-gaping awe. I loved Edward. I loved his innocence. I loved how the story was quirky yet beautiful with that strangely conventional imagery attached; it couldn’t of been portrayed better to make you feel whimsy in a dark place. When the amazing actress, Dianne Wiest, appears at the gothic mansion where she ends up finding Edward is so staggeringly beautiful. We see this giant abandoned structure amidst the most manicured yard ever seen.
The isolation portrayed in Edward is so spot on, actually in most of the characters really. Edward may be, though, the most innocent character in a movie that I can think of. How he interacts with the sheer curiosity of the neighborhood/community, where Edward ends up, shows how innocent he is. They push the notion that he is a novelty with their actions, because how they end up betraying him shows how he was actually an oddity in their eyes. How quickly people can turn on a dime, right? But Edward ends up very lucky to have fallen in love with a girl who helped save his life at the end, leaving him back at the gothic mansion where we found him. Safe.
The whole story is put together in a magical way.
*Tim Burton’s art freaks me out, though, as I went to his MOMa exhibit a handful of years ago in NYC and was petrified to look at a lot of it. But to see his progression as a teen to an adult, incorporating his life experience out of living in Burbank CA in all the art forms, was pretty stellar. He truly is brilliant.
This was super hard because I love movies sooooo much!
Only two more left! 😦
Until next Tuesday!
Challenge #7 of the 10 Day You Challenge
I am listing four COOKBOOKS I looove flipping through on the regular…
If you do not have a Julia Child book of any type in your collection..shame on you! She really was the queen! This has to be the best all-comprehensive book on baking.
Ina Garten is the dreamiest cook isn’t she? She has zero issue with stuffing a hamburger with a pound of butter, then topping it with cheese, and eats with unyielding abandon with her little husband. I own almost all of her books, but this one is my favorite!
My dream man right there..he is not only an Adonis with a cool name, ladies, but, he can COOK!! And by God what a cook he is! I love this book because he cooks like we do at home, real.
Martha’s books are a must if you like entertaining, really, but this one reads like an encyclopedia of hors d’oeuvres knowledge! It’s huge and you can spend a lot of time leafing through it for ideas.
This was actually real tough cause I like so many of the cookbooks I own; especially the holiday ones! Southern Living makes some of the best holiday related cook/decorating books and I love Mexican food ones, too!!
What are your favorite books? or cookbooks!??!
Till next Tuesday!
Challenge #5 of the 10 Day You Challenge
My yard has to be my favorite three season place to be! Well, four too, but I will look at it from afar from a window in the Winter!
Most any of them, but my local Gloucester beaches are among my favorite. I love to hear the local people, watch the waves, feel the breezes, touch the sand and soak up the sun. It is truly one place where I can relax, feel at home, while thinking of nothing else but what is in front of me.
There is something about this restaurant that makes me feel so at home. Their food is great. Their drinks are clever. The atmosphere is quaint. The decor is spot on French bistro. The staff is great. I just love it. Plop me down in that corner booth right there with a Madame Lillet, a steak with frites with a salad nicoise, and you are talking one happy girl.
Snagged this from their site.
I was just there Sunday, and now I have this place on my mind.. arg I want to go to there!
Our master bedroom’s shower is bliss encased in glass and marble. The shower’s water pressure is great. The heat ramps up super hot, which I love. The smell of my favorite body wash. The feeling of hot running water all over is absolutely magnificent. Also, any place where my children can let me be for an hour is where I am at!
AND NO. There are no photos of me in the shower here.. but I do have this!:
Out of all the cities I’ve ever travelled to none make me feel happy like Boston. It’s big city life in such a small city scale. The people, the history, the coast line, the restaurants, the museums, the universities, the neighborhoods, the community vibe, blend it together and it’s home. Boston, you truly are..my home!
The mattress is super soft and comfy (latex mattresses rawk!). It has a fluffy mattress cover. It is the perfect size for me; not too big, not too small. The sheets are always clean and crisp. Slipping into the sheets when they are clean is a great way to relax. The bedding is my favorite color, blue. It is situated below two windows, so you can feel the cool breezes of the Summer nights whisper over. My husband shares it with me, which is a lot of fun (hubba hubba). Our girls love to snuggle with us in the morning, one of the best ways to wake up. Annd… My pally pal, Gordon Ramsey (my cat), loves to snuggle on it with me. And who doesn’t love bed snuggling anyway?!!? ;P
This was actually hard to put together! I could have picked any place I have traveled to or want to go to cause the list is long and at my fingertips, but when I thought about this list, I wanted to list my favorite places where I feel most at home. 🙂 Cause I love that feeling.
Where are your 6 places??
Till next Tuesday, everyone!
Challenge #4 of the 10 Day You Challenge
All types of wants mashed together!
1. For us to live happily among family and friends always in good health and with enough money in our pockets to be comfortable.
2. Our mortgage, and all loans pertaining to our house, paid off! This is our only debt and I want it paid off!
3. A Summer home along the shores of The Cape! I want to give my family, and the generations that follow, the opportunity I never had as a child with a Summer home.
4. To retire young with my husband and to live most of the year right here!
5. A harlequin Great Dane with blue eyes. (if I cannot have ’em, blue eyes, I wanna be surrounded by them!)
6. Two black cars- one vintage and one spanking brand new.
Preferably..a ’65 Lincoln Continental all chrome with suicide doors.
annnd a fully loaded, 2014 BMW X6
7. To grow gracefully in good health while never losing my sense of humor, sense to travel, sense of wonder, sense of pride, sense of family, my deep heartfelt feelings or my cray cray mind… and being able to share the wisdom, lessons-learned and stories of a life lived with my family!! I never had grandparents in my life, but I’ll be damned if I don’t make an amazing one like my Mom and Dad! There truly is nothing worse than an old person that has lost themselves in life so they are left with no stories to share and nothing to learn from!
This wasn’t that tough, but still it was weird to think about what I actually want, in life or in general.
Till next Tuesday!
Challenge #3 of the 10 Day You Challenge
In no particular order…
They ARE getting harder each week! Yikes, fears was a tough one!
