Have been MIA for the past few days cause of this cold and the family fun happenings. Which also means, no recipes/cooking to share. Luckily, this cold has been fooling me with feeling OK during the day and completely kicking my butt at night so I can do things around the house and with the girls.
Started off the weekend with the Town Happenings Friday night right after work. It was real nice! I’ve always wanted to be a part of a community that had fun events that I could (and wanted to) attend. They shut down Main Street and all the shops stayed open longer. There was a band, free hayrides, a tree lighting, and some of the shops offered discounts too! And for the shopaholic in me, that was right up my alley. The girls had a real fun time seeing their friends from school, decorating gingerbread cookies, drinking hot cocoa, and at every shop we visited, grabbing a sweet treat …or three!

Saturday was a pretty non eventful day. It was my Mom’s birthday, but not the day we were celebrating, so I got up early with the girls and called her to wish her a wonderful day. My girls loved every second of the call, but then we had to scurry to get ready for the day. I kept battling this darn cold with meds, which seemed to not be working. ARG! Shuffled the girls off to dance class, cleaned the house, and the girls returned with a coffee and a smile (this is what I mean by a coffee hand delivered with a smile every Saturday. They just make my day!). Baked cookies for Sunday’s events, then made some popcorn for our Saturday night movie. We watched Arthur Christmas. It was a sweet movie about Santa’s son. I cried. I cry at almost every movie I see nowadays. I DO NOT KNOW WHY! I probably am crying right now except I am exhausted after my day and can’t feel it. My children liked the movie a lot, and now think that Santa is British. Oye. Overall, Saturday was a nice day, and it ended with some yummy sushi and a restful night’s sleep. Finally!
Sunday, today, was a real nice day. I did, however, wake up feeling sick still, but I cured that with wine later. We had our family birthday bash for my Mom and I. As I said above, my Mom’s birthday was Saturday. My birthday is this Friday. YEAH! So, we decided to celebrate together. I love birthdays! Today we had my family over the house for a fun afternoon of drinking, eating and..CAKE! I am not a huge fan of cake, but I do like a chocolate cake. And with this said, my house, my rules…chocolate cake..with ricotta filling and whipped cream frosting it is. It was real yummy, and of course, we had to have the holiday themed cake for our big day, cause that is just how it is. As far back as I can remember my birthday has been associated with Christmas. It’s 11 days before and no matter when or what I have always had a Christmas themed cake. Why change it? Though there were no poinsettia this year, the trees with roses was sweet nonetheless.
A lot of wine was drank, chips were dipped, some stories were told, pizza was eaten, I wore orange, photos were taken and gifts were given. Received some swank things this year, and for that I say a big thank you! I got a beautiful handmade, blue, shimmery scarf from my sister, along with pretty earrings and a super, swanky, turquoise skull ring with shiny things on it that I cannot wait to wear!, and a beautiful serving dish from my mother in law, and a soft, sleek faux fur sweater, and luxe, shiny earrings and bracelet from my Mother. NICE! To end off the night though the lights went out! Seriously! Right after my parents left and my sister wanted to hang out a while, around 8:15PM, the lights went out in my town! Luckily, it didn’t last too long so I was able to fire up the laptop to write this blurb. I am looking forward to my actual birthday this Friday though! I just love my day!
Well, I am going to sign off for now, but not before posting some pics of my fun weekend!
